Praise be to Allaah.
Lettuce is a kind of plant that it is permissible to eat.
Allaah has blessed us with good food that He has created and brought forth
for us from the earth. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“O mankind! Eat of that which is lawful and good on the
earth, and follow not the footsteps of Shaytaan (Satan). Verily, he is to
you an open enemy”
[al-Baqarah 2:168]
“O you who believe (in the Oneness of Allaah — Islamic
Monotheism)! Eat of the lawful things that We have provided you with, and
be grateful to Allaah, if it is indeed He Whom you worship”
[al-Baqarah 2:172]
The permissibility with regard to these things that we are
permitted to grow and eat has nothing to do with the names that people give
to them, because the names come from these people, each according to his
environment and language.
Based on that, the fact that this is called “iceberg lettuce
trinity” does not make it haraam to grow it or eat it, even though in our
research we did not find out who gave this name to it. Whatever the case, even if the word trinity in the name is a religious name connected to deviant Christianity, it does not affect the fact that it is permissible.
